Opinion piece

OPINION PIECE
Traditional medicine, the salvation of the Lung Cancer

Some people use the alternative medicine trying and believing that works on the cure of Lung Cancer, but in my opinion it doesn’t works, traditional medicine; created by the mind of the human, technology and science, is the salvation.

The lung cancer, one of the most dangerous cancer’s of the world (because of his symptoms, such as problems with breath), can´t be cure by alternative medicine, in fact I don´t know any cure by this type of medicine. Today there is no cure to Lung Cancer (a cure that eliminate all the cancer in the lung), but exist treatments that can help to live with the cancer, to live with pain and nuisance and without mental awareness, this treatments are traditional medicine.

We have treatments like: the chemotherapy that in my opinion is a very good treatment but the second’s effects are damage (by way of hair loss), the radiotherapy that as last the seconds effects are not damage but are annoying (tiredness and fatigue), or the bone marrow transplant that don’t have dangerous second effects but it doesn´t works sometimes like the others (addition that is very costly) and is very difficult to do. Sometime people just opt to the surgery.

In the end nothing is perfect, most of this treatments are expensive and difficult to access but are work by the doctors of the traditional medicine and that are we have so we must said thinks to that because de alternative medicine can´t do that.

Lung Cancer

1.- The characteristics of the Lung Cancer are the uncontrolled cell growth in tissues of the long. If this serious problem it`s no treated can be deadly, putting the growth beyond the lung cancer in process called metastasis, and eventually to other parts of the body, as the heart. The most cancers that start in the lung are the Carcinomas that derive of epithelial cells. The main types of lung cancer are: Small-cell lung carcinoma (SCLC, called oat cell cancer) and Non-small cell lung carcinoma (NSCLC). The common cause of the lung cancer is the exposure of tobacco smoke in a long time smoking. The MOST common symptoms of the lung cancer are the coughing (including coughing with blood), problems with breath (because the cancer covers a part of the lung) and wight loss.

2.- Lung cancer is caused by several reasons. The first is the daily cigarette consumption and air pollution. The smoke contains toxic chemicals that are released in the smoke that smokers produce. “The chemicals accumulate in the lungs and eventually cause cell damage”. And also de passive smokers can had a long cancer because the smoke of the smokers is in the air and a passive smoker can inhale and be contaminate. Another Long cancer reason is Endogenous factors, Industrial risks, urban pollution and atmospheric, Scarring: bronchial pathology prior and virus.

4.   The therapies that can be used in lung cancer are generally the  Biological therapy; this therapy can control or stop the growth of cancer cells. This type of Biological therapy can treat the two types of lung cancer (SCLC and NSCLC). The doctors of this treatment use many types of drugs, including: erlotinib (Tarceva), gefitinib (Iressa) and crizotinib (Xalcori). The erlotinib, knowed by his brand name Tarceva, works by blocking particular proteins called epidermal growth factor receptors (EGFR) that works in the cancer cells. The gefitinib has the brand name       Iressa, it also works blocking the epidermal growth factor receptors, the gefitinib is the number 1 treatment recommended to the NSCLC. The crizotinib with the brand name Xalcori, only works helping the advanced NSCLC in people that the cancer cells have an overactive version of a protein called anaplastic lymphoma kinase (ALK).

5.- The possibilities of recover of the long cancer depends of your grade of your tumour if is really advanced is very difficult to cure, bad if the cancer is “new” you have a big chance of survive. The traditional medicine has a lot of treatment to do de recuperation more possible like pharmaceutical and chemotherapy.

6.-There are no remedies only treatments and surgeries if the cancer is in face 1 (joust beginning) you can make a surgeries but if is in a hire level you have to do like a chemotherapy pre other treatments. That are like the remedies to cure Long Cancer.

7.- The cost have been difficult to measure. The primary obstacle to quantification is the intermittent and long term nature of treatment for this disease. A complete record of expenses cannot usually be obtained from one source, however, a review of all the national health surveys, as well as the Medicare, which is maintained by the Health Care Financing Administration in a format suitable for calculation of cumulative medical expenses . The lifetime cost of treating lung cancer is $ 12.510.

8.- In Chile,  we have the AUGE plan which is a national law N°19.966 for all Chilean to have their health program guaranteed by the Government.

Doctor Sergio Kleinman says that this cancer is not considered in AUGE plan yet, but lung cancer surgery it is covered by the public and private system. The problem are the treatments for lung cancer patients.
In the USA cancer health disparities are not only an economic and medical concern but also a moral and ethical dilemma for the USA-
Many problems such financial and geographic barriers to treatment; ineffective provider patient communication; inadequate screening, and insufficient post treatment and long term follow up can occur in varying combination over time, resulting in increased lung cancer related costs. In the USA, one thing has become clear : social injustice leading to unfair inequities are most part of these problems.
The NATIONAL CANCER INSTITUTE, part of the National Institute of Health and the Department of Health and Human Services, is the Nation´s principal agency for cancer research and coordinates the National Cancer Program.
As a federal agency, NATIONAL CANCER INSTITUTE receives its funds from Congress. The NCI´s busget has been approximately $ 4.9 billion per year.
Other federal agencies, state and local governments, voluntary organizations, private institutions, and industry spend substantial amounts of money trying hard to help cancer patients, their treatments, drugs and others.
